La Critics Choice Association (CCA) anunció las nominaciones para la edición 2025 de los Critics Choice Documentary Awards, que se celebrarán el 9 de noviembre en el Edison Ballroom de Nueva York.
El documental Orwell: 2+2=5, dirigido por Raoul Peck, encabeza las nominaciones con siete menciones, entre ellas Mejor Documental, Mejor Dirección y Mejor Documental Político. La producción de Neon, inspirada en la obra de George Orwell, continúa su destacada trayectoria en el circuito internacional de premios.
Le sigue The Perfect Neighbor, de Netflix, con seis nominaciones, incluyendo Mejor Documental y Mejor Dirección para Geeta Gandbhir, mientras que Apocalipsis en los trópicos, dirigido por la realizadora brasileña Petra Costa, se impone como una de las contendientes más fuertes del año con nominaciones en Mejor Documental, Narración, Documental Político y Dirección.
“Las películas y series nominadas este año nos recuerdan cómo la narrativa documental puede iluminar la verdad, inspirar empatía y ampliar nuestra comprensión del mundo”, señaló Christopher Campbell, vicepresidente de documentales de la Critics Choice Association (CCA). “Nos entusiasma reconocer a los cineastas cuya visión y dedicación mantienen viva y en evolución esta forma artística”, agregó.
La ceremonia estará conducida por el actor, guionista y productor Aasif Mandvi. Además, el prestigioso documentalista Ken Burns recibirá el Critics Choice Impact Award, presentado por la actriz Christine Baranski, en reconocimiento a su trayectoria y a su contribución a la comprensión de la historia y la cultura a través del cine.
Asimismo, las realizadoras Heidi Ewing y Rachel Grady serán galardonadas con el Pennebaker Award (anteriormente Lifetime Achievement Award), distinción que será entregada por Chris Hegedus, viuda y colaboradora del legendario documentalista D.A. Pennebaker.
